Are you planning to take—or re-take—an important Test in the New
Year? Does that Test have a [dreaded] Mathematics component? Are
your math skills rusty ornon-existent? Whether it's the TASC or the
CUNY Placement or the GRE/GMAT or the ASVAB, or any other
potentially life-changing assessment, do yourself a favor: Before you
enroll in a Test Prep Program, get the Day of Remediation-Math
Workbooks and work on mastering the Times Tables and acquiring
various mental math abilities.
Research has demonstrated that we learn new concepts by connecting
them to knowledge we already possess. If you don't have a strong
foundation of fundamental math facts and algorithms (in your long-
term memory) upon which you can build understanding of more com-
plex math concepts (in your working memory), your chances of doing
